Ariel Camacho: 22-year-old Mexican Singer Dies in Car Crash
Del Records Mexican singer Ariel Camacho was involved in a fatal car crash Wednesday.
The 22-year-old, who was on the road promoting the deluxe edition of his album, El Karma, died in the car crash that happened on the highway outside of his native Sinaloa, Mexico.
A Sony Latin representative confirmed that Camacho had died on site. There are unconfirmed reports that another person died while two other people were injured in the accident. According to El Universal, Mexico, the car crash happened at around 3 a.m. Some reports are claiming that the driver was speeding around a curve when he lost control. The car, a Honda Accord, ended up in the canal.
"My heart is broken by the loss of Ariel Camacho," said Angel Del Villar, president of the Regional Mexican label. "I knew he was going to transform the genre in Mexico and the United States. Millions of people would have become fans and would have gotten to know the man I did."
Camacho, born Jose Ariel Camacho Barraza, was the frontman for the band, Los Plebes del Rancho. The other two members of the band are Cesar Sanchez and Omar Burgos.
Camacho mainly performed in the Sierreno musical style, which featured acoustic guitars, bass and accordions. He was known for his soft-edge vocals and his guitar playing. El Karma was the artist's first album on DEL Records.
As a young artist, Camacho was already building up a fan base through his live shows and YouTube. His fans shared their condolences on his Facebook page.
Prior to the accident, Camacho uploaded a video, wishing his fans the best.
