Apple’s iPhone 6 Launch In U.S. Starts A New War Among Carriers
The national carriers in the U.S. are offering attractive deals on Apple iPhone 6 to win new customers.
Apple, the renowned smartphone tech giant, has started taking pre-orders for the newly-launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Friday. In the U.S., the pricing of both the iPhones is fixed based on their storage options but the carriers are throwing various attractive deals at customers to see what works for them.
Four major wireless carriers in the U.S. - Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, which have constantly engaged in a war with competitive offers, are fighting once again in the wake of iPhone 6 demand. The new iPhones are being sold under a standard wireless contract in the U.S. through all four carriers. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 with 16GB storage will retail for $199 and the 64GB and 128GB models will get $299 and $399 worth price tags, respectively. The larger iPhone 6 Plus with 5.5-inch screen is expected to bag an extra $100, starting at $299 for the 16GB version, $399 for the 64GB and $499 for the 128GB model.
The carriers have no control over changing these prices but they can offer extra perks for purchasing the handset on specified networks. Offers from all four carriers are listed below for you to decide which deal sits well.
Verizon
The largest wireless carrier in the U.S. is offering an impressive trade-in deal. Verizon promises to cover the cost of a base iPhone 6 model with a $200 gift card in exchange for an old iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S.
AT&T
The second largest carrier is bidding to secure its dominance with its new iPhone 6 offer. Existing customers can get a $100 waiver on the bill for just registering for a new iPhone before Sept. 30 under its AT&T Next plans. The carrier is topping Verizon's offer by giving up to $300 trade-in credit for an old iPhone but that depends on the model and the condition of the device.
Anyone willing to purchase an iPad can get a better deal with AT&T as it offers $200 discount on iPad purchased with a two-year contract.
Sprint
The third largest carrier has decided to bundle the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with unlimited talk, text and data for $50 per month. Sprint is also offering new "iPhone for Life" lease program, where customers pay $70 a month for unlimited everything and a new base iPhone once in every two years.
Sprint guarantees to beat any trade-in offer from other carriers and also volunteers to cover any termination fees involved with carrier-switch (up to $350 per line).
T-Mobile
Finally, the fourth largest carrier and the disruptive of all, T-Mobile has decided to top any trade-in offer made by another carrier with an additional $50 credit on the bill. Also, it covers up to $350 termination fees to eliminate old contracts.
As a part of its latest Un-Carrier 7.0 "Wi-Fi Unleashed" strategy, all iPhone 6 models will be equipped with free calls and texts over Wi-Fi without using additional apps or setups. The texting service can be used on flights with Gogo Air Wi-Fi and also international travelers can call and text to anyone in the U.S. using any Wi-Fi hotspot.
