Three Infants found Dead in House Full of Vermin

Investigators found the bodies of three infants in a vermin infested house in Blackstone, 50 miles south west of Boston, Thursday.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said that the house was in a terrible condition. He said that authorities have no idea when or how the babies died.  They also do not know their genders and ages, he added, reports The Associated Press.

Officials from the Department of Children and Families had removed four children; including a 6 month old baby from the house two weeks ago after a neighbor informed them about the horrible living conditions of the inhabitants of the house.

Meanwhile, police arrested a woman who lives at the home on charges relating to the living condition at the house. Erika Murray, 31, would be arraigned on Friday in a witness intimidation charge as well as other charges. However, it is unclear whether Murray has an attorney.

Recalling the scene at the small house, the prosecutor said that investigators wore hazardous material suits while working in the house. They were decontaminated when they left.

"The house is filled with vermin," Early said. "We have flies. We have bugs. We have used diapers, in some areas, as much as a foot-and-a-half to two-feet high. The house is in a deplorable condition," he said, reports AP.

He said that the authorities removed the children aged 13, 10, 3, and a 6-month- old from the house on Aug. 28. The baby was found when one of the children informed a neighbor that a child was always crying. The neighbor found the girl lying in the bed covered with feces.

Marilynn Soucy, 68, who lives near the house, said that she was shocked to hear the news.

She said that she hardly saw the couple who lived in the house for around three years. However, she occasionally saw the 10-year-old boy playing outside or the woman sitting on the porch of the house.

"If we thought kids were being abused or living in squalor we would have said something," she added reports AP.

Another neighbor, Christine Morin, 58, said, "I only ever saw the two kids. Never, never  saw the babies," reports Boston Herald.com.

The children are now in the custody of Department of Children and Families.
