A New Chromebook Pixel Is Officially In Works, Coming "Soon"
The Chromebook Pixel - Google's ultra-premium laptop designed to showcase Chrome OS, may be finally getting an update after almost two years.
Google executive Renee Niemi confirmed the news of new Pixel in works.
"We do have a new Pixel coming out and it will be coming out soon. We will be selling it but I just have to set your expectations: this is a development platform. This is really a proof of concept. We don't make very many of these - we really don't. And...our developers and our Googlers consume 85% of what we produce. But yes, we do have a new Pixel coming out," he said.
The original Chromebook Pixel was a reminder for the industry that the OS isn't simply for the budget devices.
The Chromebook Pixel 2 isn't a device intended for consumers, but one made for developers and those working closely to improve Chrome OS, noted Androidandme.
According to rumors, the Chromebook Pixel 2 will sport the same 12.85-inch screen size with ultra-high resolution. It is also expected to equip built-in fans and the new reversible type-C USB ports. Other specs are up in the air, but we'll keep you posted on further development regarding the Chromebook Pixel 2.
It's already looking like it (Chromebook Pixel 2) will be the first device to ship with Chromium's new "Freon" pseudo-display server replacement, according to OmgChrome.
