Kendrick Lamar Update: Rapper Cuts Performance Short after Sound System at Air + Style Fails
Kendrick Lamar was not a happy camper by the end of the inaugural day of Air + Style.
The two-day Air + Style event, presented by Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White, had the potential to be a great event. The production combined man-made slopes for a spectacular snowboarding show with a music festival that had several big names, which included Lamar, Diplo, the Black Lips and more.
Despite the impressive combination of the arts on paper, fans were left very disappointed at the end of day one when Lamar cut his performance short due to sound issues.
The Grammy-award winning rapper and Compton native started his 90-minute show with a great vibe and passion. After performing several of his hit songs, which included "Poetic Justice," "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Don't Kill My Vibe," Lamar got fed up with the low set sound and left the stage after roughly 45 minutes.
"Sound-man, I need you turn this (expletive) up! We're trying to party," Lamar, whose microphone was muted, said.
He added, "These people paid good money to see a live show. I don't think the sound guy realized I have some of the loudest (expletive) fans in the whole world."
Toward the midway point in his performance, Lamar told his fans, "We are the loudest (expletive) on planet Earth, and I love you all to death for that. With that being said, I will be back (expletive)."
Lamar, however, never returned to the stage, leaving fans confused.
"We were so excited about today and so excited to see Kendrick, but then this happened," said Lauren Williams, 20, of Los Angeles, reported by Pasadena Star-News. "Everyone I know was coming for Saturday; this was the big day. Tomorrow isn't going to be as well attended, especially after this. It was a step below underwhelming."
"He was sounding so good and I was into it. I don't know what happened," said Nestor Lopez, 20. "He was the best part of the night."
Let's hope the sound systems at the 2015 Sasquatch! Festival, the UK Wireless Festival and at 2015 Essence do not disappoint.
