Oscars 2015 Bomb Scare: LAPD Say It's a False Alarm
A bomb scare, which later turned out to be false, shut down the busy area near the Dolby Theatre, the venue for the upcoming Oscars. The incident took place just steps away from the Dolby Theater, home to Sunday's Academy Awards.
Around 12:30 p.m., Los Angeles police received calls about a man doing donuts in his car on Hollywood Boulevard. Police responded to the scene and found a man in his 30s claiming there were explosives in his car.
According to LAPD, the man driving the suspected vehicle was stopped after erratic driving and left his car with a propane tank. When he was taken into custody for questioning, he told police that he had explosives in his car.
"There is no explosive, that has been cleared. [The driver] is still in custody and is being transported to the Hollywood police station where officers are going to question him," a spokesperson for the LAPD said.
The area around the Dolby, site of the upcoming 87th annual Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, had already been closed to traffic in preparation for the film industry's highest honours.
The man's car was towed away.
An outraged neighbor shouted his anger at the man who had caused so much chaos in their community.
The scene was declared clear and streets were reopening, LAPD said on Twitter about 4:15 p.m.
The Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday (February 22).
