Pittsburgh Steelers Le’Veon Bell Expected to Miss Two Games
The Pittsburgh Steelers can expect to play their first two games of the upcoming season without their star running back Le'Veon Bell.
Bell, who was arrested on Aug. 20 for marijuana possession and driving under the influence (DUI), will most likely be suspended for two games by the league, sources informed ESPN NFL Insider John Clayton based on the NFL's new substance abuse policy.
Bell, 22, will also spend 15 months on probation as a part of the first-offender's program. Under probation, Bell will not be allowed to use drugs or drink alcohol. He has to participate and complete all recommended treatment. Since he was caught while driving, Bell's license has been suspended for 60 days. Bell will also have to finish a safe-driving class.
Former Steelers teammate LeGarrette Blount was also in the car at the time. His marijuana charges have been dropped last week after finishing 50 hours of community service. Blount is currently with the New England Patriots.
General manager Kevin Colbert stated on Tuesday that the Steelers will be prepared if Bell is indeed suspended. However, replacing Bell, even if it is just for two games, will not be easy.
Last season, Bell was the league's second-leading rusher. He gained 1,361 yards and scored eight touchdowns. He was the Steelers' second-leaving receiver, making 83 catches for 854 yards.
Bell was drafted out of Michigan State in 2013. He was the Steelers' second round pick, 48th overall.
