Will Smith a Lying or Cheap Dad? "Fresh Prince" Actor Son Jaden Owns Only a Pair of Shoes

Will Smith surprised the audience in a recent interview with Esquire Magazine when he talks about his 16-year old son, Jaden Smith's thrifty nature keeping just a handful of clothes.

"Jaden, my 16-year-old, he has one pair of shoes.He h as three pair of pants and he has five shirts, Smith said during the interview hosted by Scott Raab as cited in an report from Defame Gawker.

He has refused to be a slave to money. I so respect that. The younger generation is less of an ownership generation, anyway," he added.

The 46-year old singer-actor recounts memories from his childhood growing up in a middle class community and how different it is from where Jaden is growing up.

"I grew up in a house where you would need the kerosene heaters in the winter in case the bills didn't get paid. And he's from the complete other end of the spectrum. And it's so interesting to me that from growing up in that space, he could see the need for things in a way that he's rejecting. He's like, 'I'm not gonna let myself need things in that way.' "

Media sources are reacting to the singer's exaggerated statement by posting pictures of the 16-year old actor donned in an array of signature clothes in different occasions.

Yahoo recalled a 2013 interview with the father and son talking about clothes with Jaden saying that he like Cartier at that time. He also used to like Louis Vuitton.

The media site further stated that Cartier has always been known for their high expensive items with its cheapest watch costing at least $2,740.

As for Will Smith's musical career, MTV said that the singer-actor is currently collaborating with Kanye West in the making of a new album. This will be his first album after a long hiatus with his last album released on 2005.

"I went into the studio with Kanye. I'm thinking about it. I'm exploring. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet but I'm exploring. I'm in a creative ceiling," he said.

The singer further said that Jaden has been a great inspiration in the current album's making.

"My son tells me I have to write out the things I don't like. I can't write and stop, I have to keep going and going and write them out. I've never worked like that before but I think I might give that a shot."
