Owners of Samsung TV, The TV Is Watching You!

Do you own one of those Samsung SmartTVs? And you think you have been watching TV? Well, you're wrong. The TV is watching you in fact.

Samsung SmartTVs sporting voice recognition are always listening to your voice, and the maker has warned that every word is being captured and transmitted via Internet.

"Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through your use of Voice Recognition," Samsung posted in its SmartTV privacy policy.

In defense, Samsung said it needs to send the voice commands to a third party as it's the one responsible for converting speech to text. However, the company also collects voice commands to perform research and determine whether it needs to make improvements to the feature.

A point worth noting is that Samsung has not yet responded on the identity of the third party that it sends the data to for conversion.

Samsung's response

"Samsung does not retain voice data or sell it to third parties," the company noted in a statement. "If a consumer consents and uses the voice recognition feature ... the voice data is sent to a server, which searches for the requested content then returns the desired content to the TV."
