Sony unveiled Z3 Tablet Compact at the IFA 2014 trade show in Berlin as it continues to improve the ailing sales of its smartphones and tablets.

Sony is throwing everything on the wall to see what sticks. In a bid to retain a respectable position in the mobile electronics space, the company launched the all-new Z3 Tablet Compact, touted as the "world's slimmest and lightest compact tablet." Measuring at just 6.4mm and weighing 270grams, Sony's new compact tablet is the world's one and only tablet to feature PS4 Remote Play.

With the introduction of the new apps and features, Sony is also adding its flagship premium features like waterproof and dust-proof certification. The Z3 Tablet Compact features an 8-inch Full HD display, 8-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS sensor and a 2.2-megapixel front shooter. According to Sony, the tablet will draw its power from a 2.5GHzquad-core Snapdragon processor, slightly better than its perdecessor Z2 Tablet and 65/68 IP rating for water and dust resistance.

The tablet will use a large 4,500mAh battery that should run 13 hours on video playback, Sony said. The tablet brings support for PlayStation 4 through PS4 Remote Play, which allows users to stream PS4 games on tablet while connected on the same network. It will act as a second screen for the console to purchase games and download them, while allowing users to chat with PSN friends. The optional GCM10 Game Control Mount will remotely connect Sony's DualShock controller to the Z3 Tablet Compact.

"Following on from the success of our award-winning Xperia Z2 Tablet, we're continuing to expand our tablet portfolio with the launch of the no-compromise compact tablet," Calum MacDougall, Director of Product Marketing Program at Sony, said in a press statement, Wednesday. Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact pushes the boundaries of technology innovation by bringing our flagship Z3 series features in a compact size, continuing our new standard of offering premium experiences in a choice of form factor for consumers."

The tablet will arrive in both LTE and Wi-Fi versions but the pricing and exact availability details were not revealed. Sony Z3 Tablet Compact is expected to hit the market in fall with more details to follow.
