Colts D’Qwell Jackson Arrested for Allegedly Hitting Pizza Driver
The number of scandals and police arrests related to active and former players continue to increase this year for the NFL.
Indianapolis Colts D'Qwell Jackson was arrested and issued a citation for allegedly punching a pizza driver in the face and head over a dispute about a parking spot in Washington, D.C., ABC 7 News reported.
According to the victim, he was using Jackson's parking spot Tuesday night. The pizza deliveryman stated that he had informed Jackson that he was only using the spot momentarily. Jackson, however, reportedly got upset and told the driver to get out of the spot. The situation escalated and Jackson allegedly punched the man in the face and the back of the head.
The man was treated at the scene. He did not go to a hospital. Jackson, 31, was released from jail the same night. He will appear before the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on a charge of misdemeanor assault on Feb. 26. He could face a maximum of 180 days in prison as well as a fine of up to $1,000 if convicted.
ABC 7 added that a team's spokesman stated that they were aware of the arrest. The Colts are reportedly waiting on more information before taking action.
Jackson was drafted out of the University of Maryland by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. The linebacker stayed with the Browns until the end of the 2013 season.
In March 2014, Jackson signed with the Colts as a free agent. In his first year, he led the team with 184 tackles. The nine-year veteran also played in his first Pro Bowl.
Jackson was the one who made the interception in the AFC Championship match against the New England Patriots that started the "Deflate gate" controversy.
He has three years left on his four-year, $22 million contract.
