Lance Armstrong hits two parked cars, flees scene and asks girlfriend to say she was driving (FULL DETAILS)
Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong is making headlines again, and not for the right reasons. While driving home in an SUV after a night of partying in Aspen, Colorado in December, he hit two parked cars and asked his girlfriend to say she was behind the wheel in order to avoid more scrutiny, according to reports.
Armstrong, 43, was cited for two misdemeanors; leaving the scene of an accident and driving too fast for the snowy conditions in the December 28 incident, according to CNN. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.
The same charges were filed against his girlfriend, Anna Hansen, 33. She later confessed to the police that she had not been driving the car as previously reported.
When Hansen was asked if Armstrong has convinced her to take the blame for the accident, she responded: "No, that was a joint decision and um, you know we've had our family name smeared over every paper in the world in the last couple of years and ... I thought, 'Gosh, Anna Hansen hit some cars, it's not going to show up in the papers, but Lance Armstrong hit some cars, it's going to be a national story.' "
Hansen later said that Armstrong "was aware" that she had gone "to the courthouse to tell the truth and that he was prepared to admit driving the car and accept responsibility for the crash," the police report showed.
Aspen police detective Rick Magnuson wrote in his report: "I asked Hansen if Armstrong was intoxicated when he drove home from the St. Regis as she originally told me. Hansen replied, "He was not intoxicated, and that was um, you know, I'm sorry I lied to you that morning but I was trying to make it sound like well I was driving because that was just, I don't know, I'm not in the habit of lying in general and especially not to police officers so, I don't know I was just trying to make something up at that time."
