More Than 900 militants Killed in North Waziristan Operation, Says Pak Army
The Pakistan military said that it had killed nearly 910 militants since initiating an offensive against them in the tribal zone of North Waziristan.
The operation Zarb-e-Azb was launched on June 15 against local and foreign militants in the Taliban bastion.
"Operation Zarb-e-Azb is progressing as per plan. Since start of the operation 910 terrorists have been killed," the military said, reports Times of India.
Eighty two soldiers died in the operation and 269 others were injured, the military said in a statement.
In addition to clearing roads in North Waziristan, the military also cleared the towns of Miranshah, Mirali, Datta Khel, Boya and Degan. These towns were considered Taliban strongholds.
The statement also said that a huge collection of arms and ammunitions and communication apparatus used by the terrorist was destroyed. This will surely make it impossible for the terrorists to launch attacks.
However, the army has not given any details of civilian casualties, though residents who fled the area say that many people have died.
Around 800,000 had no other option than to leave their homes in North Waziristan since the offensive started in June, reports BBC.
Though the terrorist attacks inside Pakistan have witnessed a sharp decline after the offensive started, no important militant leader has so far been nabbed by the military.
The army had admitted in July that many militants might have escaped from North Waziristan hearing of the military offensive in advance.
The statement from the military comes at a time when the protest's against the government is rising in the capital.
The military offensive against the Taliban started when the peace talks between the government and the militants failed, reports BBC.
