Lindsay Lohan and mother sue Fox News for saying they use cocaine together
Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan and her mother Dina Lohan have a lawsuit against Fox News, TV host Sean Hannity and Michelle Fields for defamation after the reporters allegedly said the famous mother are daughter use cocaine together.
Fields made a statement on Hannity's show saying Dina Lohan "is doing cocaine" with her young, troubled daughter. The statement was made on February 4, 2014, just 48 hours after actor Philip Seymour Hoffman sadly died in Manhattan, of a heroin overdose.
Hannity and his guests were discussing other celebrities who had died of ODs, including Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson and Elvis.
In the the legal documents, obtained by the New York Daily News, the Lohans allegedly came up in a discussion as "Early Train Wrecks and Tragedy About to Happen."
The Lohans' lawyer claims Fields "falsely, inappropriately and shockingly stated, unequivocally and as a 'matter of fact' that 'Lindsay Lohan's mother is doing cocaine with her'."
The legal complaint continues, "Fields made the false, defamatory, heartless, derogatory comment in the context of the show's topic... (It) was a direct smear on the character/reputation of (the Lohans)... (and it) was a totally irresponsible and malicious innuendo... (that) Lindsay Lohan might become the next celebrity to join the obituary list."
The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, and to stop Fox News from distributing the Feb. 4 broadcast.
