More Than 1 Million Pebble Smartwatches Shipped
Pebble has shipped more than 1 million smartwatches - double the number of watches it shipped last spring.
Speaking to The Verge, Pebble CEO said the company shipped its one millionth Pebble on December 31 -- up from 400,000 as of last March. In September, the company had slashed the price of its standard version to $99 and steel version to $199.
Pebble has been one of the pioneers in smartwatch market. However the company is facing fierce competition right now, with big players like Motorola, Samsung, LG and Sony introducing their own smartwatches equipped with Android Wear. Apple will also debut the Apple Watch in April.
Migicovsky added that to meet the challenges, company will introduce new products this year as well as a new software platform for its smartwatches.
"We've found a new framework to use as an interaction model on the watch," Migicovsky said, adding that the apps currently found on the Pebble won't be the main focus. "It doesn't look like what we have today, and it doesn't look like what's on your smartphone."
The standard Pebble watch offers fitness and sleep tracking, notifications from your smartphone, up to seven days of battery life, and access to apps. The Pebble Steel watch provides the same feature with an addition of the display made of Gorilla Glass and a stainless steel body.
There are now 6,000 apps and watchfaces on the current platform, and Pebble says it has nearly 25,000 developers contributing worldwide, The Verge added.
