San Francisco 49ers Update: Aubrayo Franklin Returns as Assistant Coach

The San Francisco 49ers have welcomed back defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin in the assistant coach position.

Franklin, 34, played with the 49ers from 2007 to 2010 when Jim Tomsula was his position coach. Tomsula was promoted to head coach after the end of the regular season. According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Franklin will learn under a yet-to-be-named defensive line coach as the defensive assistant coach. Eric Mangini was just hired as the defensive coordinator.

Franklin has played for the New Orleans Saints, the San Diego Chargers and the Indianapolis Colts before retiring.

In addition to Franklin, the 49ers will reportedly hired Steve Logan, a former running backs coach. According to Matt Maoicco of CSN Bay Area, Logan will join the offensive staff but his position is currently unknown.

Logan was Tomsula's offensive coordinator in 2006 for Rhein Fire, a team that was a part of the now defunct NFL Europe league. From 2007 to 2008, Logan was the offensive coordinator for Boston College where he worked with quarterback Matt Ryan. Logan was then hired as the running backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011.

The 49ers are reportedly still interested in Eagles' wide receivers coach Bob Bicknell for the offensive coordinator position. The Eagles, however, have prevented Bicknell from interviewing. The 49ers have also missed out on two other offensive coordinator coaching candidates.

The 49ers have not confirmed any of these hirings.
