NBA Names Newcomers for the 2015 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest
The NBA has revealed a very young lineup for the 2015 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
Instead of going to All-Star players and veterans, the league has chosen Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo, Minnesota's Zach LaVine, Orlando's Victor Oladipo and Brooklyn's Mason Plumlee. LaVine is a first-year rookie and the remaining three players are only in their second season.
The most impressive young man in the group is Oladipo, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 draft. He averages 16.5 points per game with 3.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds. Antetokounmpo, averages 11.4 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Bucks. Plumlee, who is the oldest at 24, averages 10.4 points and 6.7 rebounds. LaVine, the youngest of the group at just 19-years-old, averages eight points with 3.4 assists.
The NBA also announced a change from last year's team format. For this year's contest, each player will have three tries to complete two dunks during the first round. There will be five judges scoring the dunks on a scale of six to 10. The top two scorers will advance to the final round and perform two more dunks. The player with the highest combined score will be named the champion.
There will be no fan voting involved.
The Slam Dunk Contest will air live on TNT. It will take place on Feb. 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
