Detroit Pistons Trade Rumors: Interested in Knicks’ Pablo Prigioni
The Detroit Pistons are looking for another point guard and sources are reporting that they are very much interested in New York Knicks' Pablo Prigioni.
Since waiving Josh Smith, the Pistons have relied heavily on guard Brandon Jennings. However, due to a serious leg injury, Jennings will miss the remainder of the season. Jennings sustained a full tear in his left Achilles during Saturday night's game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Jennings averaged 15.4 points with 6.6 assists in 28.6 minutes. Over the past 13 games, his stepped up his performance on court, averaging 20.9 points and 7.2 assists.
Without Jennings, the Pistons could be interested in adding Prigioni to their lineup. The 37-year-old Argentinian would provide additional help for D.J. Augustin, who averages 9.0 points in 21.8 minutes, and rookie Spencer Dinwiddie. During Sunday's game against the Torono Raptors, Augustin exploded with 35 points and eight assists in 37 minutes.
Bleacher Report detailed how Prigioni could help the Pistons, writing:
"Prigioni can't be relied on to create offense for himself the way Jennings can, but his shooting from deep can help make up for what Detroit is losing. In the pick-and-roll Prigioni would presumably help bring out the best in center Andre Drummond, who is struggling from the field this year."
Prigioni averages 4.8 points with 2.5 assists in 18.8 minutes.
Rumors are that the Knicks, who have the worst record in the NBA at just 8-37, plan on trading Prigioni. Prigioni's affordable contract at $1.7 million this season and a $290,000 guarantee for next season, makes him a desirable candidate for a team in desperate need of a backup guard.
