MLB: Yankees' A-Rod Training with Record-Breaker Barry Bonds
Alex Rodriguez, who has been riddled with injuries, doping allegations and a season-long suspension, plans on returning to the game in tip-top shape. The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Rodriguez is currently in California, training with none other than Barry Bonds.
The Chronicle reported that Rodriguez was spotted at the Future Prospects Baseball facility located in San Rafael, CA with Bonds.
John Shea with the San Francisco Chronicle wrote, "I'm told A-Rod, coming off his yearlong drug suspension, looked good after a couple of weeks at the facility, but it's uncertain how much, if at all, he'll play next season."
The New York Yankees, who are expecting A-Rod in mid-February, have stated that Rodriguez would have to earn a spot in the lineup. The team has hinted that the third baseman will most likely be the designated hitter after they resigned third baseman, Chase Headley in Deceeber.
Rodriguez missed all of last season after MLB Commissioner Bug Selig suspended him for his involvement with Biogenesis of America clinic, which no longer exists. In 2013, Rodriguez hit .244 with seven homeruns and 19 RBI in 44 games.
Bonds, who has faced allegations of performance-enhancing drug use as well, has previously spent time tutoring Giants hitters at this location. Bonds has also worked with Dexter Fowler, who was just traded from the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs. Now, the home run king will reportedly work with an aging Rodriguez, who has not played since 2013.
The Future Prospects facility is owned and run by Charles Scott. Bonds has been friends with Scott for years.
