Gaming News: Game-binging Kills Another Taiwanese Man in 2015
Marathon gaming claimed its second victim of the year in Taiwan, after a 32-year old man died following a three-day session.
According to CNN the man whose last name is Hsieh, walked into an internet café in Kaohsiung on January 6. When staff at the café found him slumped in his chair motionless on January 8, they rushed him a hospital where he was declared dead. He had reportedly died of cardiac arrest.
Taipei Times quoted Hunei Police Precinct chief Weng Chun-nen saying that exhaustion and cold temperatures caused the death. The security camera footage obtained from the café showed Hsieh struggling before he collapsed. Chun also advised gamers that they should give themselves a break every few hours to prevent exhaustion.
The staff at the internet facility said Hsieh used to frequent the café and game for two to three days. When exhausted, he would simply put his face down on the desk or doze in his chair.
Hsieh's death follows the death of a 38-year old gamer in Taiwan on January 1 after gaming for five days. Police noted that in both cases, the deaths had occurred at internet cafes and when they had gone to investigate, other occupants did not budge.
"We went inside to cordon off the tables and had investigators there to gather evidence. Only then did the other patrons realize that someone had died, but they still showed no concern and kept playing their games. We were amazed at their nonchalant attitude," a police spokesperson was quoted saying by Taipei Times.
