LG has announced its stylus-equipped G3 phablet, the G3 Stylus, packed with mid-range specs at  affordable pricing.

LG, the second largest Korean smartphone giant, continues to expand its smartphone lineup with variants of G3 smartphone. The latest addition to LG's smartphone category is the G3 Stylus, aptly named for its accompanying stylus pen. The new LG smartphone comes at a time when Samsung is prepping the launch of its high-end Galaxy Note 4 and the G3 Stylus design aims to take on its home rival but with an affordable price.

LG hasn't packed G3's highly-capable features into its G3 Stylus but adds several premium features of the flagship in a mid-range package. It sports a 5.5-inch qHD display with a screen resolution of 960x540 pixels compared to G3's 2K screen. Other specs are also way below G3's standard, the processor is a 1.3GHz quad core backed by 1GB RAM and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The G3 Stylus sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3MP front shooter.

"With its exceptional hardware and exceptional price that can't be beat, the LG G3 Stylus is in a category all by itself," Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG, said in a press release, Tuesday. "The LG G3 Stylus is the perfect tool for consumers who don't want to be bogged down carrying a laptop, tablet and smartphone. It gets things done and lets you have fun while doing without having to compromise on quality, style or user experience."

The main highlight of the phablet is its Stylus pen, which can perform various functions such as taking notes with Quick Memo+, sketching, doodling, jotting and more, LG said. The key features highlighted in the LG G3 Stylus include a dual window for multi-tasking and other features taken directly out of G3 smartphone like the Touch & Shoot, Smart Keyboard, Gesture Shot and Knock Code.

The LG G3 Stylus may not be a full-fledged handset competing against upcoming Galaxy Note 4 but it can be a suitable alternative for those who are looking for phablet features in an affordable range. The new handset is aimed at emerging markets, starting with Brazil next month and other countries in Asia, Middle East and Africa to follow soon. The pricing details will be available locally at the time of launch.
