Meteorite Like Nike Streaks Through Russian Sky And Social Media

On Sunday morning in Konstantin Pivkin sky in Amur, Russia, there was a beautiful and vibrant celestial phenomenon. A shining object zoomed through the sky, leaving a white trail that looked like a Nike logo. It hung on the sky for two hours.

"[The trace of the alleged meteorite] looked like a trace of the plane, only bigger and much brighter," an eyewitness from Belogorsk in Amur, Russia's Far East told the local Amur.info website. It was spotted near one of the army units in the city.

 The object then exploded, however, it generated a thunderclap-like noise, which was heard only eight minutes later, according to the people. "The clap was loud... the trace of explosion was seen in the sky for at least two hours," one person said. "It was an absolutely white trail."

 However, there was no destruction or damage. Even the window frames did not shake, said the witnesses. They confirmed that it was a meteorite. It was seen also from Blagoveshchensk in the Amur Region, which is 115 kilometers from Belogorsk.

The comet was also zooming through the social media, with lots of blogs and photographs about it.

"It seems to me that Nike, Inc. was the sponsor of this meteorite, "said Twitter user ‏@spartak737, referring to its resemblance to Nike's logo.

In a recent study, scientists' theory of meteorites is challenged. They thought meteorites carried the basic building blocks of life to the planets in the solar system. However, new research shows that meteorites are just "remnants of rock and dust from planet formations", according to fulltimewhistle.com.

There are tiny spherical particles of molten droplets called chondrules that are discovered clinging on the surface of the meteorites. Scientists feel that they were the building blocks that helped to originate life in the solar system. Each chondrule was created from a blend of gas, dust and rocks that finally led to the making of planets in the early stages of the solar system formation.
