Are You a Cash App User? Here’s How to Get Your Settlement Compensation
In a significant development, Cash App, a popular mobile payment service, has agreed to a $15 million settlement following a class-action lawsuit related to data breaches. This settlement aims to compensate affected users who experienced unauthorized access to their accounts and personal information.
Background of the Settlement
The lawsuit against Cash App and its parent company, Block Inc., stems from two major data breaches. The first breach occurred in December 2021 when a former employee accessed sensitive information of 8.2 million users without authorization. The second breach involved unauthorized access through recycled phone numbers, affecting users' accounts and personal data.
Eligibility for Claims
Cash App users who had accounts between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, may be eligible to file a claim. To qualify, users must have experienced unauthorized access, fraudulent transactions, or inadequate error resolution related to their Cash App accounts. Importantly, users who have already been reimbursed for these issues are not eligible for additional compensation under this settlement.
Compensation Details
Eligible users can claim up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses related to the data breaches. Additionally, users may receive compensation for lost time, calculated at a rate of $25 per hour for up to three hours, and for documented transaction losses.
How to File a Claim
To participate in the settlement, users must submit their claims by November 18, 2024. Claims can be filed online through the official settlement website. Users who wish to opt out of the settlement to pursue separate legal action must file an exclusion claim by November 1, 2024.
