Doc Rivers and Austin Rivers will become the first ever father-son duo in NBA history. The younger Rivers was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team trade involving the Boston Celtics and Phoenix Suns.

ESPN.com reported earlier, prior to the trade, that Doc Rivers was willing to coach his son.

He had said, "I think a year ago I probably wouldn't, but I think I would for sure. I think this team could handle that. He's a downhill guard, which is something we need, so I certainly would."

When asked if he might show favoritism toward his son, Doc Rivers replied according to ESPN.com, "I probably show favoritism to Blake [Griffin] and Chris [Paul]. I love my son, but I think I'm going to still favor Blake and Christ and those guys."

Rivers was the 10th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft after spending just one season at Duke. He averages 6.8 points with 2.5 assists in 22.1 minutes. The Clippers have waived veteran guard Jordan Farmar to make room for Rivers.

Doc Rivers, who is also the Clippers' president of basketball operations, will be responsible for negotiating a future contract with his son, who will enter free agency at the end of this season.

In this deal, the Celtics, who recently acquired Rivers from another three-team trade, traded him to the Clippers in exchange for a 2017 second-round draft pick and shooting guard Chris Douglas-Roberts. Douglas-Roberts, who has been in the league for five years, is expected to be waived by the Celtics. The 6-foot-7, 28-year-old is averaging 1.6 points in 8.6 minutes. The Celtics also acquired Suns' forward Shavlik Randolph, who averages 1.1 points in 6.3 minutes so far this season.

The Celtics have made nine trades with nine teams so far. They have acquired as many as 14 potential draft picks over the next two years.

The Suns received Clippers guard Reggie Bullock in the trade. The rookie averages 2.6 points in 10.5 minutes.

"Reggie Bullock is a talented young player we have liked for a while," Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said. "He shoots the ball very well and he has the potential to be a good perimeter defender."

Bullock was the Clippers' 25th pick in the 2013 draft.
