At least 12 people killed in train accidents in South Africa

At least 12 people were killed and more than 180 people were injured in a train accident in South Africa on Saturday (April 4), AFP reported, quoting a local health official.

The accident occurred on a train collided with a truck that ran near Kronstadt, 200km southwest of Johannesburg.

Some of the carriages were derailed and flamed, and some passengers were reportedly still trapped.

Two of the casualties are in critical condition.

"We are worried that as the search and rescue work progresses, there will be more deaths," a health official said.

Local authorities are investigating the specific cause of the accident.
