Google Translate App Is Smarter Than Ever, Integrated With Word Lens
Google has announced a major update to its Google Translate app for Android and iOS. The new features include Word Lens integration, allowing users to automatically translate written text on street signs or menus and other printed items. The new update has also been powered with enhanced real-time conversation translation.
According to Google, the new update will "transform your mobile device into an even more powerful translation tool."
Google had acquired Quest Visual, makers of Word Lens, and the features of the app can be seen integrated in Google's Translate app now. The new update requires you to simply point your phone camera at the text of foreign language and the translated words would appear within seconds. The best part of the update is that using this feature doesn't require data connection.
As of now, Google Translate can translate to English from French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
The update has enhanced its conversation translation mode as well. The new app has automatic language detection for its audio translation.
The update is being rolled out to Android, and at the time of writing no update for iOS was available either.
