The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Update: Debut Date Confirmed
If you are a Stephen Colbert fan or have been a fan of the long-lasting 'Late Show' we have good news for you!
On Monday, CBS announced that the new host of the show, Stephen Colbert, will meet the audience for the first time on Tuesday Sept. 8, at New York City's Ed Sullivan Theater, according to International Business Times.
In a statement released by Colbert, he said "I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby. So first, I should find out how you make a baby," signaling that Late Show with Colbert will be a little different than the one with David Letterman.
Letterman, who hosted the show over 21 years and has been in the TV business more than 30 years now, had declared that he was getting ready to retire from late night television. In April 2014, CBS announced that Colbert was chosen to fill Letterman's shoes.
Although it might sound challenging to take over a show that has been on the air for more than two decades, Colbert, who proved himself with his success on Comedy Central, has kept the public's hopes high.
The Colbert Report, which earned two Peabody Awards and multiple Emmys, was an enormous success for Stephen Colbert. But some also argue that trying to match his own success may end up being his biggest challenge. Only time will tell.
Viewers of the show should expect some changes in the format, though nothing is definite yet. CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler said, "There will be parts that will be traditional in some context and there will be things he wants to do differently. He's a real student of media. He knows the format better than anybody."
Tassler also gave clues that Colbert might incorporate music and guests into the program in unusual ways. But she added that even though the show might be unconventional sometimes, it will still deal with current events, and be topical and relevant.
