Everyone thought that Assassin's Creed starring two-time Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender would finally break the series of awful video games adaptations to the big screen. The critics does not think so.

Based on RottenTomatoes, a website that collates reviews from veteran newspaper critics to amateur internet film critics, the movie has a deep low rating of 15 percent. The movie is considered worse than the disappointing Suicide Squad (26%) and another video game misfire Warcraft (28%).

According to its consensus, the film directed by Justin Kurzel is better than most of the video games adaptations but CGI-fueled result is not enjoyable because of the "overplotted slog." Edward Douglas of New York Daily News said that Assasin's Creed gave him hope that the curse among video-game movies would be lifted. Unfortunately, Assasin's Creed was not able to do it.

Stephani Zacharek of TIME Magazine said that despite the star-studded cast trying to save the film with their committed performance, it is undeniable that Assassin's Creed is confusing and messyJesse Hassenger said that the big-budget film, which is also produced by Fassbender, seems to have the participation of the actor and its co-star Marion Cotillard unnecessary for the film.

Alan Scherstuhl has no kind words with Assasin's Creed. He described it as a miserable fantasy action-adventure junk by guys who were mad that Star Wars lets women to be protagonists now. In all 27 film reviews, four of them received the film as a good watch. David Ehrlich of indieQIRE said that it may be too much to say that the film is the best video game movie ever made but it still fits the bill.

Adi Robertson of the Verge said that she was surprised on how the film has a long amount of time but at least, Assasin's Creed had its steady footing. Assasin's Creed also stars Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling, and Michael K. Williams. It would be released on December 21.
