Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Star Felicity Jones Set To Host Next Year's Saturday Night Live; She Will Portray UK Prime Minister Theresa May?
Felicity Jones attends the launch event and reception for Lucasfilm's highly anticipated, first-ever, standalone Star Wars adventure 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' at the Tate Modern on December 13, 2016 in London, England.
NBC's Saturday Night Live will take a holiday break this time after its successful event with Manchester By The Sea actor Casey Affleck with musical guest Chance the Rapper. Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones, who is the lead star of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will be the host on its return.
The British actress who also has some independent films on her filmography will be hosting the longest running sketch show on January 14. With her musical guest is Sturgill Simpson who has recently nabbed a Grammy nomination at the Album of The Year category.
The actress was also known for her role as Jane Hawkins in Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everythig with Eddie Redmayne. In the new Star Wars movie, she is playing as Jyn Erso, the leader of a group of rebels who prepares to steal plans for the Death Star that would eventually lead to the timeframe of 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.
With her massive pay check from her massive movie would be reasonable for Saturday Night Live to get her as the host. She would also be the last host before US President Barack Obama officially steps down the office for president-elect Donald Trump.
With this event, viewers could expect a lot of political sketches involving Trump, Obama, Hillary Clinton, Vladimir Putin, and more. By this week's episode, they rained shots again at Trump with the Love Actually inspired sketch starring Kate McKinnon as the Democrat candidate.
This is her Saturday Night Live debut and she would be the third British to the show this season after actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Emily Blunt. The show was already graced by Brits before like Martin Freeman and George Carlin.
What could she play? A British affected by Trump presidency? UK Prime Minister Theresa May? Or she would just throw some fun jokes with the Saturday Night Live cast? Watch out on January 14.
