Overwatch News And Updates: Blizzard Comments On Negative Reception Of Mei's Christmas Skin

Overwatch Christmas Event is in full swing with all new skins, emotes, and extras, but a lot of fans have been complaining about Mei's Christmas skin which some consider to be a tad disappointing. The developers at Blizzard have commented on the complaints, and they admit that they may have made a mistake when it comes to the Chinese ice scientist's winter skin.

In a post by Jeff Kaplan, he admits that the Overwatch team was just thinking of what they thought was cool when they were working on Mei's new skin. He wrote, "We just sort of make a gut call based off of what we think is cool. Coolness is very subjective, and based off of the community reaction it seems like our gauge was off on this one."

Kaplan also writes that the reason that they deemed the skin legendary was because the developers completely redid the visual effects for Mei's Cryo-freeze move - instead of turning into a block of ice, Mei hides herself into a snowman. Aside from that, the skin is basically a festive recolor of Mei's usual skin.

Good news for Mei enthusiasts is, Kaplan says that the developers are planning to release a new Overwatch Legendary skin for Mei early next year. Some guess that it could have something to do with the Chinese New Year coming in February. Could Mei have an ice dragon look?

A lot of fans were looking forward to Mei's new skin this Overwatch winter since - aside from the ice being her element - Mei didn't get any special skins during other Overwatch events like the Olympics or Halloween. At least Blizzard is openly active with the community and constantly assuring gamers that they listen to their complaints.

Overwatch is now available to play and the Winter Wonderland event is live until Jan. 2, 2017.
