Star Wars Battlefront 2 News, Update: EA "Focused" On Bringing Single Player Campaign Into The Game

December saw the release of the final DLC for Star Wars Battlefront, the "Rogue One"-inspired Scarif expansion. DICE is now going to move on to the newer trilogy of films, and news has it that the developers will be focusing on a single player campaign for Star Wars Battlefront 2.

The information comes from EA's Justin McCully, and in a podcast interview with Achievement Oriented, he sheds some light on what fans can expect from the next Star Wars Battlefront game.

He says, "The focus of the first game was to nail the core multiplayer experience of what DICE does great. That was the strategy of that title. And now as we expand in the universe we have better sense of what characters are coming into play, what stories we can tell, what stories are maybe being told in a film versus a game, that's where we've really ramped up the interaction with the [Lucasfilm Story Group] to bring those games to market."

The first Star Wars Battlefront game received a lot of criticism for the lack of single-player campaign, and though the game solidly nailed the aesthetics and sounds of the original trilogy, fans felt the game lacked in content for what they paid for.

The good news is that the devs at EA and DICE have "heard the fans loud and clear," and players can expect a well-rounded campaign by the time Star Wars Battlefront 2 gets released. This time around, the timeline will focus on the trilogy that was launched by J.J. Abrams with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

By the sound of it, Star Wars Battlefront 2 looks to be an open-ended story where players can affect the outcome of the game. McCully said, "Gaming is not linear. You need to give the player some choice and have them tell their own stories. That's different from a linear story that's presented in film or TV. A character that you're helping to define."

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is expected to come out in the fall of 2017.
