Oregon teen given 11 years for carving swastika into classmate's forehead
An Oregon teenager received a sentence of 11 years for torture of one of his classmates that included carving a swastika into his forehead.
Oregon Live reports that the 11-year sentence given to Blue Kalmbach was the last of four handed down as punishment for the crime. Kalmbach and three other teenagers tortured one of their classmates who used to be one of their friends.
The teens tortured the victim by shooting him with a BB gun in addition to beating him with a crowbar and baseball bat. They also made him eat cat feces before scarring him for life by cutting a swastika into the flesh of his forehead. The guilty teens also robbed him of his iPod and demanded he hand over cash and a skateboard.
The other teens who participated in the crime were 15-year-old Jenna Montgomery, 17-year-old Jess Taylor, and 14-year-old Shane Connell. Montgomery lured the victim to the shed on Connell's grandfather's property where the torture took place. Taylor held the victim at the point of the BB gun while he was tortured. Kalmbach was the one who carved the swastika into the victim's forehead. He also beat the victim with a crowbar.
Montgomery received a nine year and 11 month sentence for her role the crime. Taylor was given a sentence of seven years and nine months. Connell received a sentence of 10 years. The guilty parties must also pay $3,470.85 in restitution to the victim. The cost will be split among all the perpetrators.
Kalmbach's parents wrote a letter to the victim and the court in which they apologized for their son's actions. The letter read in part, "While there is no excuse for what happened, Blue has been dealing with some mental health issues for much of his life and has been in and out of therapy for several years."
