Blizzard Cookie Project: Overwatch Fans Crowdfund Cookies And Charity For Developers; Jeff Kaplan Is New Hero
Fans are quick to voice their opinions when it comes to their favorite games, especially when they find unfavorable additions from developers. An example would be the recent outrage against the Winter Wonderland skin for Overwatch hero Mei. However, Overwatch fans are now expressing their gratefulness for the hard work Blizzard Entertainment has done so far by sending them holiday cookies!
Christopher Culley put up a campaign called Blizzard Cookie Project on Indiegogo. According to the campaign, it started as a small suggestion from the Reddit Overwatch community.
The campaign description reads: "The /r/Overwatch community (and /u/HiHaterslol specifically) had a great idea to send cookies to the wonderful folks of Blizzard Entertainment. They have crafted an amazing game experience that has provided us collectively with thousands of hours of entertainment. Along the way they've been amazingly communicative and provided wonderful and consistent updates. I think a lot of us agree they deserve a special thank you!!"
Culley says he is now currently in contact with a catering company in Irvine. A commenter on the campaign site even suggested they make a set of cookies that look like the entire cast of Overwatch.
The small cookie drive was so successful, it raised 400% of its initial goal of 625 USD based on an average $2.50 per cookie for Blizzard employees. Blizzard instead suggested to limit the cookies and give the remainder to charity. The campaigner has decided to give the rest to Child's Play, a charitable organization working with hospitals to give out toys and games to kids.
Right after a user on the Battle.net blog asked Blizzard to respond to Mei skin controversy, a Reddit user called game developer Jeff Kaplan as the 'hero we don't deserve' because of Kaplan and team's overall effort to constantly rework heroes and willingness to listen to the game's community. Overwatch team is known to regularly post updates on the site and game client, post YouTube videos, and are actively participating in community forums.
