Netflix 'Narcos' Season 3 Spoilers & News: "Medellin Cartel" Still Reigns; Poster Stirs Protests From Colombians, Cries "Pablo Escobar" Not A Hero
Netflix "Narcos" is a depiction of Colombia's drug scene. With Season 3 and 4 featuring Medellin, Cali, and Mexican, how will the show present the transfer of power from one cartel to another? What do Colombians think of the "Narcos" hit series?
In "Narcos" Season 3 going forward, as the series shifts focus from Medellin to Cali Cartel, producers want it to be as historically accurate as possible. "Narcos" showrunner Newman reveals that Season 3 will focus on how the drug trade ante progressed after the death of Pablo Escobar. With a more widespread power of the more cunning Cali Cartel, the upcoming season will showcase the drug traders' influence that extends beyond pariah, starting with their rise to ranks which began when they owned the Colombian administration in 1994.
Following Pablo Escobar's death, the Medellin Cartel remained in power for about two years before Cali Cartel transitioned into the drug scene. In "Narcos" Season 3, Newman revealed that he will be focusing on the 18-month transition period of Cali Cartel. Hollywood Reporter postulates that the fourth season may start introducing the Mexican cartels which began during the reign of the Cali cartel.
In other news, a giant poster of Netflix's series "Narcos" displayed in Madrid caused an outcry from Colombians. Colombian government even joined the protests with Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin requesting Madrid government to take it down, saying that Colombians are now moving on following the reign of Medellin cartel and that the "Narcos" advertising does "great damage" to Colombia. The request was declined, however, as the poster is within Madrid's city ordinances.
Colombian leader Juan Manuel Santos wanted to remind people what kind of man Pablo Escobar really was. He said that while "Narcos" is a good show, Colombians have actually lived through the actual turmoil of Pablo Escobar, so he shouldn't be considered a hero as the suffering of the deaths and people who were affected by the Medellin Cartel still hurts.
