Dolby Atmos Speakers Heading to Xbox One and Windows 10 Next Year!

Recently, Microsoft announced that Dolby Atmos Speakers will support Xbox One and Windows 10 sometime in 2017. The Dolby Atmos Speakers is widely used for surround systems and cinemas.

According to Polygon, Microsoft previously announced the support but elaborated on the information recently. According to Microsoft, Dolby Technologies' new surround sound technology, the Dolby Atmos will support games and the Blu-ray feature for Xbox One. Xbox's Head of Platform Engineering, Mike Ybarra, said that the company is excited to partner up with Dolby Technologies to provide players with the best sound experience when it comes to games. "Bringing Dolby Atmos support to Xbox One and Windows 10 will bring you even further inside the action of your favorite titles," said Ybarra.

For those who are not familiar with the Dolby Atmos, it is a format of mixing surround sounds in movies, games, and other media. Dolby Atmos Speakers began inside cinemas, providing viewers with the best experience for movie viewing in a surround system set-up. It makes viewers feel like they are part of the action that is happening on-screen with the mixing of audio provided by  Dolby Atmos Speakers, making it seem that the sounds move around the viewers. This is an excellent feat for gamers who sometimes use sounds as a sign of an incoming enemy or trap. Star Wars Battlefront is marked as the first video game to support Dolby Atmos Speakers experience. Blizzard's Overwatch also supports Dolby Atmos but through headphones only. This 2017, Microsoft will post an update for Windows 10 and Xbox One, enabling full support of Dolby Atmos. Fans also assumed that Microsoft's upcoming console, Project Scorpio may also support Dolby Atmos.
