PlayStation 4 Controllers Can Now Be Use on Steam

Valve recently updated the popular gaming platform Steam with new changes. The update now lets players use Playstation 4 controllers for the PC.

In a report via The Verge, Valve announces that Steam now supports the Playstation 4 Controller. This lets players use Playstation 4 controllers when playing games on Steam without relying on third-party programs such as Joy2Key. In an article in Gamasutra, Jeff Bellinghausen revealed that the Playstation 4 controller will act very much like Steam's own controller because it uses Steam's native API.

In order to access the controller's configuration in Steam, plug the Playstation 4 controller to the USB port. Open Steam in Big Picture and click on the settings. In the settings, there's a feature name "Add/Test Controller."

What's good with the latest update is that players can now customize the Playstation 4 controller to fit their gaming preferences. Players can map their controls in the settings, as well as program the controller's touch pad and the gyroscope (for games that requires the gyroscope feature). This will let players enjoy games that are much better played with a controller than a keyboard and mouse.

This update also benefits not only the players but also developers. Bellinghausen also revealed that providing support for the Playstation 4 controller makes it easier for developers to map their game's controls. "You can make the exact same API calls and the Steam API takes care of everything," said Bellinghausen. He also stated that there are plans to add additional controller support for Steam in the future. As to when and what are these, there is no further information revealed. But there's a chance in the future where all types of controllers will be supported on Steam without the use of a third-party program.
