'How I Met Your Mother' Spinoff Underway With 'This Is Us' Writers; Greta Gerwig Returning? New Characters Confirmed
Two years after the hit sitcom series ended, the "This Is Us" writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Burger are now working on the script for the new "How I Met Your Mother" version. In a report by Variety, the title would be "How I Met Your Father." The report states that the new script is in the works and they are hoping to be included in the 2017-2018 TV series contention.
No word as of yet on what network will be showcasing the series as the show will be in the market for networks that are interested in the "How I Met Your Father" version of the spinoff. CBS has yet to confirm if the network is interested in carrying the series. Vulture reported that there was a problem in the casting end of the new spinoff, but the issues weren't with Greta Gerwig. Also, the report states that the Fox-owned "How I Met Your Father" is an issue with CBS as these two networks have "lots of mistrust," states the report.
The "How I Met Your Mother" creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays will no longer be executive producers of the "How I Met Your Father" version of the spinoff. They will not be directly involved in the production due to their deal with Sony Television. Emily Spivey of "Saturday Night Live" along with Thomas and Bays created a spinoff in 2014 but did not live up to the original series. In fact, the spinoff cost a whole lot in the pilot production alone, but while Nina Tassler, CBS boss was trying to restore the pilot, the series creators were not as enthusiastic.
Unlike the "How I Met Your Mother" original series, the "How I Met Your Father" will showcase a different angle as it will be shown in a female point of view. The new spinoff is reportedly going to feature new characters.
