Phoenix Suns Trade for Brandan Wright
The Phoenix Suns are reportedly working to acquire Brandan Wright from the Boston Celtics, according to Adrian Wojnarowski with Yahoo! Sports. The Celtics will receive a future Minnesota Timberwolves draft pick.
CBSSports.com detailed the pick: "As for the pick: it's top-12 protected in 2015 and 2016, and then it turns into two second-round picks: Minnesota's selections in 2016 and 2017. Translation: unless Minnesota makes an enormous, highly unlikely leap next season,"
Wright came to Boston in the Nov. 18 Rajon Rondo deal. Since then, the big man has not made a huge impact on the team, averaging only 10.8 minutes per game. Prior to joining the Celtics, Wright was with the Dallas Mavericks where he averaged 18.7 minutes per game. In 27 appearances he averaged 8.8 points with 4.1 rebounds.
Overall this season, the 6-foot-10 forward is averaging 7.5 points with 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 35 games.
"He is one of the most efficient scorers in the league," Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said. "His shot-blocking ability will help anchor our defense."
"The way Dallas played last year is somewhat similar to what we play - being in the open court and pick and rolls," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "Brandan does a great job of rolling to the basket and catching the ball and either dunking it or he's got a little jumper, so he can shoot it. Obviously our starters are the same. The bench might be adjusted a little bit, but we'll see how it goes."
The Suns have also waived forward Tony Mitchell.
