'Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Michael Muhney Ready To Return As Adam Newman! Head Writer Not Interested?

Justin Hartley's exit from "The Young and the Restless" spurred assumptions about Michael Muhney returning as Adam Newman. Muhney recently responded to fans' speculations on Twitter and it looks like he's ready to come back to his role sometime soon.

Muhney portrayed Adam on "The Young and the Restless" from 2009 to 2014. The actor's portrayal of Adam was praised because of his ability to provide a dark and shrewd persona that the character required.

Hartley's take was great but it failed to capture Adam's dark side that Muhney effortless did. This is why "The Young and the Restless" viewers launched an online petition about him returning to the role. As of this writing, the Change.org petition has 1,601 supporters.

Rumors about the real truth behind Muhney's departure from "The Young and the Restless" in 2014 included an unprofessional attitude and an alleged sexual misconduct. Nothing about these speculations was confirmed, but whatever the reason appears to be behind Muhney now. In a series of tweets, the 41-year-old actor thanked fans of his portrayal of Adam and shared that he has changed for the better since he exited the long-running CBS soap opera.

Muhney tweeted that "it's a rare thing to capture this much passion & support and encouragement from fans." He feels honored about the recognition, adding that the petition "brought tears" to his eyes, blew him away, and humbled him.

Whatever happens to Adam on "The Young and the Restless," Muhney believes that he's more professional now than he was in 2014 and it's all thanks to him letting go of his unpleasant attitudes, which affected his relationship with his co-stars.

Melody Thomas Scott, who portrays Nikki on "The Young and the Restless," said in a recent Twitter Q&A that Adam's return is possible because his supposedly dead body wasn't found in the cabin -- which, in soap opera tropes, means that it will return eventually.

However, "The Young and the Restless" head writer Sally Sussman doesn't seem to support Thomas Scott's theory. Sussman told TV Insider last month that the team has no plans to tap another actor to play Adam and the character would have to stay dead for now. Whether or not that would change remains to be seen.
