'Stranger Things' Season 2 Cast, News Updates: Millie Bobby Brown Up Against Winona Ryder For A Screen Actors Guild Award
It is the awards season for TVs and movies and the Screen Actors Guild released their nominations for the best works of actors. The Netflix series Stranger Things did not just only garner one but a total of three nominations -- including a battle between Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown in the same category.
Ryder, who plays single mother Joyce Bryers, is nominated for Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Drama Series. It looks like voters who love Stanger Things would have a hard time because Ryder is also competing against the breakout actress Brown, who plays Eleven.
They are also up against Claire Foy in The Crown as Queen Elizabeth II, Thandie Newton in Westworld as Maeve Millay, and Robin Wright in House of Cards as Claire Underwood. The previous winner for this category is Viola Davis in How to Get Away with Murder as Professor Annalise Keating, J.D.
In addition, Stranger Things was also up for Best Ensemble for A Drama Series, which is the equivalent of Best Picture to other award-giving bodies like the Oscars and Golden Globes. The recipients are Brown, Ryder, Cara Buono, Joe Chrest, Natalia Dyer, David Harbour, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Matthew Modine, Rob Morgan, John Paul Reynolds, Noah Schnapp, Mark Steger, and Finn Wolfhard.
The ensemble is cast against the cast of The Crown, Downtown Abbey, Game of Thrones, and Westworld. Last year's winner is Downtown Abbey.
In her Twitter account, Brown tweeted that she is stunned and please that she is nominated with other great and wonderful actresses. This is her first nomination for the respected award giving body. For her work as Joyce Bryers, this is the second recognition for Ryder. She was also nominated for her performance at the Golden Globe Awards. Stranger Things was also up for Best Drama Series in the same awards.
So far, only Orange is the New Black is the Netflix show that garnered the best ensemble cast. Could Stranger Things topple down the veteran shows in the award? Could voters choose between Brown and Ryder on who will get the top award? Or maybe, a historic tie for two?
The winners of Screen Actors Guild Awards will be announced on January 29, 2017.
