‘Supernatural’ Season 12 Spoilers: Fans To See More Of Mary! ‘Big Stuff’ Coming For Mama Winchester In Episode 9
"Supernatural" Season 11 ended with Amara (Emily Swallow) resurrecting the Winchester brothers' long-dead mother, Mary (Samantha Smith), as a thank-you gift to Dean (Jensen Ackles). Though Mary's resurrection was a big joyous reunion, she chose to part ways with her sons and reacquaint herself with the world. After all, it's been decades since she last lived and she needs time to adjust. That situation, however, is about to change soon.
Fans should expect to see more of Mary when "Supernatural" Season 12 returns for its ninth episode in January. "Supernatural" showrunner Andrew Dabb told Entertainment Weekly that Mary will "come back most strongly" and with "a lot more of a sense of purpose" in episode nine titled "First Blood."
Dabb said that Mary now knows "the lay of the land" and she understands Dean and Sam (Jared Padalecki) and the world "a little bit more" than when she was just resurrected by God's sister. Episode nine of "Supernatural" Season 12 will showcase Mary as "a much more proactive character" and "more of a player," though she still won't live in the bunker with her boys.
Mary, who came from a family of supernatural hunters, died in the hands of a demon when Sam was just a baby and Dean was a little boy. Mary was the one who influenced her husband, John, to be a hunter.
There are fears among the "Supernatural" community that Mary would meet a heartbreaking fate sometime soon in Season 12. TV Fanatic pointed out that in the long-running series, people around Dean and Sam tend to die or their lives are in peril. It makes sense that Mary's life will too. Whatever happens to Mary remains to be seen.
The first half of "Supernatural" Season 12 left Dean and Sam being captured, Lucifer (David Chisum) as the president of the United States, and the fallen angel's unborn demon spawn being carried by a willing woman, News Everyday previously reported. Mary will team up with Castiel (Misha Collins) to retrieve the boys but they will get caught by Dean and Sam's captors, too.
"First Blood" will air on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 8 PM EST on The CW. The remaining episodes of "Supernatural" Season 12 will feature more of the British Men of Letters.
Executive producer Robert Singer told Entertainment Weekly that the organization's storyline will be "very big" and "quite heavy" in upcoming episodes. They will assist the Winchesters and their allies in episode nine but they have bigger goals that are still currently unknown.
