'The Autopsy Of Jane Doe' Release Date, News & Updates: [Spoilers] What Is All With The Hype?
"The Autopsy of Jane Doe" is an upcoming horror-thriller film directed by "Trollhunter" director and writer André Øvredal. The unique film stars Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch portraying the role of a father-son coroner team. Actress Olwen Kelly plays the role of the female unidentified corpse.
"The Autopsy of Jane Doe" follows the story of the father and son after they have been tasked by the police to perform an immediate autopsy on an unidentified woman, hence the name Jane Doe. Jane Doe's body was found in a gruesome crime scene, suspected to be murdered, but does not show any trauma and any external injuries. However, as the two perform cut and incisions, it only creates more questions and wonder. The autopsy is performed in the basement of a family home.
A teaser was provided by The Hollywood Reporter: "Tony and Austin initially suspected some kind of ritual human sacrifice. As they dig deeper, they found finding runic symbols and occult spells that seem to link the girl to a notoriously dark chapter in American history. As an apocalyptic thunderstorm gathers force outside, events take a creepy turn inside the morgue. Lights flicker, radios crackle with eerie old songs, and dead bodies stir from their slabs".
Hype for "The Autopsy of Jane Doe" has been extremely high despite not being release yet. "The Autopsy of Jane Doe" debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival this past September and has made its way through a number of regional and genre-based film festivals since then, picking up glowing reviews along the way, according to Screen Crush.
Variety called it "a raucous crowd-pleaser" after its first TIFF screening. The Film Stage's review described 'The Autopsy of Jane Doe' as a "campy, nasty, tremendously fun horror experience."
"The Autopsy Of Jane Doe" will premiere in theaters around America on December 21.
