ThinkGeek has announced that it will be conducting a lottery to allow consumers to buy the very elusive Mini NES Classic consoles. The first draw was held last December 12, with another happening today. This selling strategy is another way for the retailer to wipe out its stock of the consoles.

The retailer outlined on its website how consumers can get their shot to snag a Nintendo Classic Edition. Buyers are advised to add the NES Mini to their wish list cart. Winners will be announced after a random selection of lottery entries. A code will be sent via email and link to buy the console.

ThinkGeek reminds lottery participants that the code is only valid within 24 hours. Once it expires, consumers need to back in the mix the following day to have another shot.

The Nintendo NES Classic has emerged as this year's must-have toy for the holiday season. It was launched on November 11, 2016, and has never solid stock inventories since then. Several retailers attempted to restock but items were gone in minutes.

The previous week saw the arrivals of new NES Mini shipments. Toys R Us started the trend, announcing new batch but they were totally wiped out after. Urban Outfitter and Amazon followed, selling the consoles online.

This high demand for the NES Classic benefitted resellers and scalpers on eBay and Craiglist. Originally sold at $59, some NES Minis commanded prices high as $2,000. One item on eBay was displayed at $20,000.

Nintendo exec Reggie Fils-Amie assured NES Classic fans that there will be more shipments coming before Christmas. He admitted that they underestimated the demand for the product.

Meanwhile, Best Buy will be restocking the console starting this December 20. Based on the selling history of the retro gaming box, stocks are expected to run out on December 20. A Best Buy representative corresponded with Fortune magazine on the extremely limited stock for the said date.
