Marco Polo was a drama web TV series inspired by the life of Marco Polo in the government of Kublai Khan, the Khagan of the Mongol Empire and the founder of the Yuan Dynasty. The first season of the show was released on the Netflix on 12 December 2014. John Fusco was the director and the writer of the series and produced by The Weinstein Company. Marco Polo was renewed by Netflix on 7 January 2015 for 10 episode and the second season was premiered on 1 July 2016. Recently, Netflix announced that they had cancelled Marco Polo after two seasons.

Netflix has cancelled Marco Polo after two seasons. It is the Netflix's first original scripted series not to be renewed for a third season. The decision of not replacing Marco Polo series was a mutual understanding between Netflix and The Weinstein Company. Netflix picked up the MarcoPolo series for a 10- episode season, for approximately $90 million and making it one of the most expensive television series in the world after Game Of Thrones. The series was officially announced at Netflix in January 2014.

Fusco, Marco Polo's director and executive producer, said, "Harvey and I have a love for this kind of history we had a fantastic cast, amazing creative team and crew, and shooting in Malaysia was a privilege," he said. "We're working on an idea right now in a similar space that we're very thrilled about."
