‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Spoilers: Should Elena Kill Damon? Salvatore Brothers Deserve To Die, Ian Somerhalder Says
"The Vampire Diaries" has no shortage of deaths and killings during its eight-year run, and many of those are in the hands of the Salvatore brothers. Ian Somerhalder, who portrays Damon, believes that the siblings deserve to die after all the destruction and mayhem they caused. Is it possible that Damon would die in the hands of his true love, Elena (Nina Dobrev)?
Rumors have been rampant about Dobrev's possible return to the eighth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries." While the actress' comeback is still unconfirmed, speculations about the circumstances of her return have been going around.
Many "The Vampire Diaries" fans believe that Dobrev would come back not as Elena but as her doppelganger Katherine to lessen screen time with Somerhalder, her ex-boyfriend and one of the long-running series' producers. In his interview with Variety this month, Somerhalder said that he has "zero idea" whether or not Dobrev will come back to the show.
The actor wants Delena fans "to be happy" but he's also on the side of the humans. According to Somerhalder, Stefan and Damon shouldn't have the "ability to wreak havoc, kill everybody, ruin the lives of so many and then get out with a happy ending."
Somerhalder said that Mystic Falls' best chance is to be rid of Stefan, Damon, and all the vampires and witches that inhabit the town. He visions Elena waking up with the Salvatore brothers and the supernatural creatures gone and "never know any of this happened."
As for how Stefan and Damon should say goodbye to the world permanently, Somerhalder would love to see the brothers sitting on a beach, hugging each other, and taking off their rings as they let the sun burn their bodies to ash. However, Elena, as Damon's possible killer, can be a poetic ending for the two characters.
Last week's "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 episode titled "The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You" showed Damon giving Elena's vervain necklace to Sybil (Nathalie Kelley). This reminded Damon of how much he misses Elena.
