"An Inconvenient Truth", an Oscar-winning documentary about climate change initiated by former Vice-President Al Gore, which gave attention to global warming in 2006, is followed by a sequel this coming 2017. It will premiere on the opening night of the Sundance Film Festival as a Day One screening.

Directed by Davis Guggenheim, the 2006 film grossed $49.8 million worldwide and won two Oscars, namely, Best Documentary Feature and Best Original Song. The sequel is now directed by Bonni Cohen and John Shenk, unceasingly dedicating the film to spreading awareness and building a more sustainable future.

Paramount's CEO Brad Grey commended Gore saying, "Al's tireless efforts to bring about change continues to inspire all of us as we fight for the health of our world for future generations." Gore set meetings with President-elect Donald Trump recently to discuss his advocacies and said that he is hopeful that Trump would consider them, as the upcoming president initially asserted that "climate change was a Chinese hoax", as reported by The Guardian.

Being one of the 13 documentary films included in The New Climate, a program comprising of films tackling environmental change and conservation, "An Inconvenient Truth" is definitely one platform which opens the eyes of people to what the environment is experiencing now. This helps to urge everyone to care and make amends on the current issues in the entire globe. "When my team and I first watched this film, we were taken by its complete, sensitive and cinematic presentation of the issues. It was emotional to see the scope of our world's problems - and heartening to see the potential for progress.", said John Cooper, the director of the Sundance Film Festival.

As listed in Sundance.org, some other films included in The New Climate are "Chasing Coral", "Hot Winter", "Melting Ice", "Plastic China", and "Water & Power: A California Heist". The program is initiated by the Sundance Institute and is supported by several foundations, including the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, and EarthX Film, among others.

"An Inconvenient Truth" is executive produced by Jeff Skoll, Guggenheim, Lawrence Bender, Laurie David, Scott Burns, and Leslie Chilcott. It will be released in theaters by Paramount Pictures and Participant Media on Jan. 19, 2017.
