Nick Cannon Confirms Separation from Mariah Carey
Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey, the power couple have separated after six years of wedded bliss, Cannon confirmed in an interview.
"There is trouble in paradise," he told "The Insider With Yahoo" Thursday. "We have been living in separate houses for a few months."
But soon after Cannon's interview went public, Carey muzzled him with a confidentiality agreement that restricts him from revealing any more details about their marriage.
Speculation about Carey and Cannon's crumbling marriage has been doing the rounds for quite some time. According to the Daily Mail, the couple has been secretly working on a property settlement and the custody of their twins Morrocan and Monroe.
There has been no official word from Carey's side yet.
"I am not commenting on Mariah's personal life, but Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour," a representative for the "Touch My Body" singer told Fox News.
However, insider sources told E!Online that Carey is heartbroken about the split.
"This has been going on for months. It has a lot to do with Nick's career choices. He does not have to work, but he's been throwing himself into gigs and projects," the source said.
The insider also added that their finances have become a big problem.
"She has tried and tried to get him to stay home more, but he always uses work as an excuse. When she points out that, financially, he does not need to be working as much as he does, it pisses him off and pushes him farther away. He hates when people assume he's living off her money," the source explained.
Carey and Cannon tied the knot in April 2009 in the Bahamas after dating for just two months. Three years later they welcomed their twins. Cannon is about 10 years younger to Carey and some say that could one of the reasons for the split. Apparently, they don't trust each other anymore.
Carey is the one filing for divorce. Cannon is reportedly not that keen on "pulling the trigger" and is more passive because of the effect it could have on the kids.
"Nick's sensible and realises that the twins would have a more stable existence if Mariah had full custody. But he wants generous visitation rights," a source told In Touch Weekly magazine.
