Florida State’s Jameis Winston will enter 2015 NFL Draft
Jameis Winston has decided to leave Florida State and enter the 2015 NFL.
According to the quarterback's father, Antonor Winston, the 21-year-old made his decision on Tuesday night. Antonor Winston added that Jameis had received a first-round grade by the NFL Draft Advisory Board. Initially, however, Anotonor Winston stated that his son would not make a decision until after the College Football Playoff National Championship.
"Winston remains the most pro-ready passer in college football. He is an exceptional pocket passer with big-time talent and valuable experience in a pro system," NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks wrote last week. Brooks also acknowledged that the young player has a few character issues.
A recent CBSSports.com mock draft is predicting that Jameis will be drafted No. 2 overall by the Tennessee Titans. ESPN NFL Draft Insider Todd McShay is projecting that the quarterback will be selected No. 2 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bleacher Report's mock draft has the New York Jets picking Jameis as the No. 6 overall pick.
In his two years at Florida State, Winston threw for 7,984 yards with 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. Since the 2013 season, he ranked fourth in touchdown passes, fourth in passing yards, and second in passes of 20 yards or more. With the Seminoles, he has a 26-1 record as a starter. In 2013, Winston won the Heisman trophy.
A formal announcement is expected to be made Wednesday.
