NBA News & Updates: For Miami Heat, The Chris Bosh Episode Is Over But Yet Not Over
With seven wins and 15 losses, this season doesn't look to be going the Miami Heat's way but the team is perhaps having a bigger issue with Chris Bosh, the injured center.
With his stint with the Heat over but the contract with the team still on, Bosh is unlikely to try a comeback this season and wait for his turn next season, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Jackson focuses on the Heat's Bosh problem saying: "...if Miami goes through the process of removing his salary from its cap in February (it cannot happen before Feb. 9) instead of, say, April, it would leave Miami at risk if Bosh makes a comeback elsewhere this season." He said it would happen since Bosh's salary would be back on the Heat's cap if he appears in 25 games for another team.
Jackson added that if the Heat thinks that Bosh is not going to make a comeback this season, it could purge him from its cap before the February 23 deadline, freeing a whopping $23.6 million this season. That means the Miami would not require to trade a similar amount of money to get another player who could earn more.
Taking a cue from Jackson, Fansided's Wes Goldberg said these considerations have created a "unique and unfortunate" situation for the Heat who may have to oppose Bosh's return to the arena.
Six-feet-eleven-inches-tall Bosh failed to clear the physical test with the Heat in September and the team's president Pat Riley said the former's career with the Heat was "probably over." Bosh missed a large part of the 2015 season because of blood clot in his lungs. He made a comeback in October but subsequent injuries forced him to miss big matches, including this year's All-Star Game and eventually failed to pass the fitness test this September. Bosh has two more seasons remaining with the Heat with which that he had signed as a free agent in 2014.
