'Designated Survivor' Showrunner Change: Will It Affect The Series' Quality?
From 24 to its follow-up limited series, 24:Live another day, the public have watched Kiefer Sutherland save the world. Now, Kiefer is back as Tom Kirkman when ABC introduced its new TV series last September 19. It's a new high-profile political drama Entitled "Designated Survivor."
After its premiere week, the show nabbed approximately 7 million total viewers and according to BuddyTV, the series is nominated for Favorite New TV Drama alongside with Sutherland who has been nominated at the 2017 People's Choice Awards for Favorite Actor in a New TV Series.
"Designated Survivor" casts aside from Kiefer Sutherland, include stars Natascha McElhone, Italia Ricci, Kal Penn, Maggie Q and many others. The TV series is about Tom Kirkman, stepping up from his role as the head of Housing and Urban Development to lead the nation as the Commander-in-Chief when all the cabinet members including the president were killed after a terrorist attack in Washington D.C.
However, Cinema Blend reported that "Designated Survivor" is handling some mishaps behind-the-scenes and have lost two showrunners already. John Harmon Feldman who replaced Amy B. Harris after she quit the show, now decides to leave also as the show's second showrunner.
Jeff Melvoin will take over Feldman's role and is said to make some changes at the end of episode 10. This is quite a difficult situation for the series since the showrunner change will greatly affect the "Designated Survivor's"' direction.
Interesting enough for the audiences, Kiefer Sutherland who is also the executive producer of the show has a say as to what will be the series' next move. But will the showrunner change downgrade the quality of the series? Or will it be for the better? Meanwhile, the viewers don't need to anticipate and assume since the "Designated Survivor" airs every Wednesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
